What would Jesus download?

I have to admit... I always thought that Jesus would rock MacOS. Just think of his Think Different poster!

Anyway, thought this was rather adventurous :: a version of ubuntu linux for Christians ((link))

Here's a wee bit about it...
Ubuntu Christian Edition is a free, open source operating system geared towards Christians. It is based on the popular Ubuntu Linux. Ubuntu is a complete Linux-based operating system, freely available with both community and professional support.

The goal of Ubuntu Christian Edition is to bring the power and security of Ubuntu to Christians. Ubuntu Christian Edition is suitable for both desktop and server use. The current Ubuntu release supports PC (Intel x86).

Ubuntu Christian Edition includes more than 16,000 pieces of software, but the core desktop installation fits on a single CD. Ubuntu Christian Edition covers every standard desktop application from word processing and spreadsheet applications to web server software and programming tools.
On one hand I think this is great... it shows real thought, imagination and a willingness to innovate. But on the other it seems to me to be another form of Christian ghettoisation. Its another thing that could potentially differentiate us from our non-Christian friends. Also, just because its Christian software doesn't mean it is any good.

I'll be stick with MacOS for now... I tend to avoid anything overtly labelled Christian and reject ghettos and pigeonholes. I would, however, welcome anyone who has installed this version of ubuntu to let me know how it works.

Thanks to Boing Boing for the heads-up.

I used Ubuntu (normal person edition) for a while... I really like Linux. To be honest, I don't see the point of a Christian version of an operating system... the key is the software.

Since Linux is open-source, and many linux users are used to compiling their own software before using it, I would have thought it would be more useful just to download things like GnomeSword and DansGuardian to your current linux distribution.

Anyhoo - I preferred SuSe :)

I guess computers that have asked Jesus into their hard-drive can't use worldly operating systems. Thank GOD for Christian Ubuntu!!!

(that last statement is dripping in sarcasm, just in case you missed it...)

I had to laugh when I read this, but now I am interested. I usually run Fedora on my computer but I figure I'll give Christian Linux a try. If anything, it will give me a chuckle.

I'll post a review on my blog in about a weeks time, when I can download and install this (strange?) new distro.
