I'm a big fan of Hiroshi Fujiwara and I am grateful to psfk for the heads-up that he has been interviewed in a mag called Streetwear Today - if you search under the current issue... they have printed some of the dialogue... otherwise, you'll need to search out the mag.

There is someone on this planet who can make something out of nothing, he can add value to things in unsurpassed measures, everything he does oozes style and perfection, he can skate and ride a fixed gear bike like it was nothing. He owns the most stylish bag company in the world, an even more stylish clothing company and the biggest companies on this planet ask for his opinions, his advice and his style. There is a small shirt label on the sleeve that he came up with, it was just a little thing with one of his companies, good enough, but it spiralled out of control because every Dick and Tom is doing this now. He invented collaborations the way we know it. He travels the world on more than 200 days a year. He loves life and his friends. A man of the people and a friend to the stars, some kind of mixture between Karl Lagerfeld and Peter Pan. And what the heck, he is one of the coolest and nicest people you will ever meet, and that is meant in every possible way. Welcome to the world of Hiroshi Fujiwara.

Why do I find him inspiring? Because he has made something out of nothing... I like that mentality. Oh and his private DJ mixes rawk too!

Haramaki!

Found this article interesting... Its the antithesis of present UK fashion... Hide your belly! Also works for blokes like me who like their trews oversized and loose (read: builder's bum).

But how could Hobonichi be so sure it would be a success to produce ‘belly warmers’? And what is so special about them anyway? Here are a couple of good reasons why you should give ‘haramaki’ a try:

• Boost your bad blood circulation you certainly have from sitting in front of this screen all day ;-) Become fit by looking good!

• Since it really warms your whole body, you can wear less in general and don’t have to bury yourself with layers of layers of winter clothes. Besides, a ‘haramaki’ is really small, so you can easily store it in your bag and use it in case you get a little cold later on. It really makes a big difference!

• If you have a cold and weak stomach it does wonders (men think digestion, women think about those painful days each month, party-goers think poor kidneys, and in winter time: Think of flu!)

• Many people wear it also when they sleep since it generally comforts you and calms your body down. (So wear one the night before your next big client presentation!)

Reminds me of a lassie called Jo who worked for alove and wore vests in a similar manner. Nice idea.

a very part-time job

One morning my wife was going into the local coffeeshop to interview for a very part-time job to help cover the cost of her return to college. Just before she walked out the door, without much forethought, I asked her to see if the owner would let me work one night a week with her. We were both surprised when he seemed to think this would be a good idea...

Some interesting observations in this article.

You are missed!

A year ago today my Uncle Robert was promoted to glory. As a family our hearts have been heavy today... we miss him so very much! but we are reassured that we'll see him someday... in a place faraway.

Thinking about my Aunt Ann and his family at this time.

Gathering

Right... first off... I understand why people have coffee mornings - I am so wired! 2 lattes and suddenly Lucy in the sky with diamonds makes sense! Oh my goodness... here comes the sun now... Love is a fab album.

(LtoR) Tim, Dan, Julie & Paul (apparently being electrocuted or something)

The gathering happened! Yeah! 10 folk turned up... including a chap I hadn't met before (Tim - a friend of Innes). Roscoe came in from Bellshill and Dan even traveled from Glenrothes to hang out... which was way cool.

After brief introductions... everybody just chilled and the conversation just kind of flowed. Its a beautiful thing to see people connect. Everyone just opened up and started to blether.

Connections were made. Ideas conceived. Dots were joined. Numbers & email addresses swapped (I love my moo cards!)

A couple of things that made the night a success:

(1) Julie pointed Paul towards a Christian charity who invest their funds by providing up to 3/4s of a person's mortgage. They see their money protected and the worker gets to do their thing without the overhead of a full mortgage. Nice!

(2) Jonathan inspired Dan to consider movie nights in Glenrothes. Jonathan is part of the Glasgow Central Fellowship and their movie nights at The Kog Cafe are really cool. It was sweet to see Dan's mind running with the idea. Success!

Just a wee quick reminder about the gathering tomorrow ((Wednesday, 17th January)).

Meet around 1700hrs at the Caffe Nero on St Vincent Place, Glasgow; for an hour or so of blether with likeminded people. No agenda or anything. Just conversation and coffee.
