When I was born, humanity was 95 per cent illiterate. Since I’ve been born, the population has doubled and that total population is now 65 per cent literate. That’s a gain of 130-fold of the literacy. When humanity is primarily illiterate, it needs leaders to understand and get the information and deal with it. When we are at the point where the majority of humans them-selves are literate, able to get the information, we’re in an entirely new relationship to Universe. We are at the point where the integrity of the individual counts and not what the political leadership or the religious leadership says to do.((Buckminster Fuller))
Thanks to ((Jonah Dempcy)) for posting this quote on his blog.
Bucky has a point... leadership changes when we all have equal access to information... questioning everything is an essential part of today. We can question everything because we have developed a sense of literacy to the information... we know how to "google" and build trusted sources. We read certain papers and watch certain news programmes and log onto certain sites and blogs for the information, albeit whether it is fact or opinion that is sought.
Is this the same with our spiritual information? Are we spiritually literate? This is about taking our faith back from the flawed constructs of man and into our own hands. Our literacy is our own, personal responsibility.
I am bored of people who claim to have faith and yet have no willingness to understand scripture. People who are happy to be spoonfed like babies... with no interest in discussion, debate and indepth analysis.
It worries me that someone is happy to be identified with a certain lifestyle and yet invests so little time in it. Its like the posers who stand at the side of the skateboard park who rarely skate because they are too interested in looking the part :: they are just a weak facade.
Spiritual literacy is essential to ensure we do not fall into any traps or go down the wrong road... The whole controversy surrounding the Da Vinci Code is just stupid... The Catholic Church are doing a tremendous job fanning the flames of publicity...but then they do it so well, why change now? Instead of banning what we believe to be wrong, why aren't we actively debating the issue? Why? because we are illiterate and don't know the very subject matter that we believe to be true.
...even in the most radical of groups : if you stray from the doctrine, you'll meet hard times!((Michael Franti - Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy))
We need to know our stuff...and live it. Let go of what we are told and learn for ourselves... be accountable for our spiritual excercise...
Teaching is good but challenge it... Don't believe what I say is true... challenge me! Leadership changes as the group become literate : why? because! is no longer sufficient. Leaders become guides pointing us in the right direction. Leaders become facilitators... market-makers... door-openers... introducers... and in doing so we learn together for the sake of us all.
