Let's make Joseph Kony famous!

KONY 2012 from INVISIBLE CHILDREN on Vimeo.

My 12 year old, Dayna, sat me down tonight when I was meant to be in my bed... and made me watch this video. This is the first campaign she's really gotten behind and I am really supportive of her.

Please take the time to watch the video... and do all you can to raise awareness of the work of Joseph Kony and LRA.

Let's make him famous!

we are not here in this world to find elegant solutions...

"...we are not here in this world to find elegant solutions, pregnant with initiative, or to serve the ways and modes of profitable progress. no, we are here to provide for all those who are weaker and hungrier, more battered and crippled than ourselves. that is our only certain good and great purpose on earth..."

Challenging :: the story of bottled water

http://storyofbottledwater.org

This video makes for interesting and challenging viewing.

I gave up bottled water last year and use reusable "to go" tumblers when I am out and about for my coffee. I think everyone close has a tumbler or will get one for their birthday this year. Its a small step... but an important one. Make the change yourself.

DON'T RUSH THROUGH EXTREME WEB LAWS!!!

"Peter Mandelson is rushing to force the Digital Economy Bill into law before the General Election.

The draconian law is opposed by industry experts, internet service providers (like TalkTalk and BT), web giants including Google, Yahoo and Ebay and even the British Library. Despite all this opposition, the Government is trying to rush it through quietly just before the election without proper debate – without a chance for us to voice our opposition. Email your MP now and urge them to stop the government rushing this law through.

There’s plenty to oppose in the Digital Economy Bill, it gives the government the ability to disconnect millions. Schools, libraries and businesses could see their connection cut if their pupils, readers of customers infringe any copyright. But one group likes it, the music industry. In a leaked memo a few days ago they admitted the only way to get the bill through would be to rush it through without a real parliamentary debate. Let’s stop that happening. "
If you live in the UK... please... please... PLEASE... go to 38degrees.co.uk and write to your MP urging them to stop the Government... OUR Government... from rushing the bill through.

It took me less than 2 minutes.

This is cool :: Kilts for Kids day

I really like my Uncle Robert Russell's latest brainwave for Children1st entitled Kilts for Kids day. Here's the skinny...
Kilts for Kids Day is CHILDREN 1ST's brand new fundraising event. On Friday 28 November we want everyone to join us in a tartan-tastic day of fun across Scotland.

Do something you wouldn't usually do, like wear a kilt or some tartan to work or school or organise your own "Kilt idol" night. Have lots of fun, raise funds for Scotland's vulnerable children and celebrate our national day, all at the same time!

/..Kilts for Kids Day will take place every year on the Friday closest to St Andrew's Day. Can't take part on the day? Why not organise a Kilts for Kids Day this Christmas or on Burns Night!!
Its a fab idea and one I know a lot of lads (and lassies) would be up for.

If you are up for it... please register now at Kilts for Kids day or give them a bell on 0845 10 80 111 and they'll send you all the deets for "tartan-tastic" Kilts for Kids Day.

Well done Uncle Robert!

The Big Ask

Friends of Earth - The Big Ask

Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!

I've signed up for the big ask
In boarding this flight you've joined thousands across the UK in demanding that all UK emissions are included in the new climate change law from the start, including those from international aviation and shipping.

There are still some seats available. So, please don't fly solo, invite your friends and make this one plane the Government can't ignore.
I'm sitting in 229F - 229G is free... someone come sit beside me.

This is cool :: Obama art

Spotted these pics while browsing notcot and I have to say I love them! Very straight, no chaser >> I am impressed as to how creatives have bought into the image and presence of Barack Obama >> he's about as iconic as Dubya is not.

See more here :: [Chicagoist] >> nice!

This is interesting :: Da Movement

This caught my eye while browsing Josh Spear - its a club night on the 28th September in NYC with a difference... its held in a new store with monies raised getting passed to charities including Invisible Children. The sweet kicks above are one of 25 pairs to be sold exclusively for this event. Other exclusives include tees [including one from Shepard Fairey from OBEY] and a vinyl toy. Nice kit. Well curated.

Another thing that caught my eye was the name of the DJ :: Kenny Mitchell :: who I posted on a while back [here]... he'll keep things moving alright.

This is something I dig... a form of compassionate capitalism... entrepreneurial activism... people doing their thing while having a great time >> making a profit and giving back. Nice! We need more of this.

Hope it gets the results they want. If you are in NYC or interesting in their thing... check out their website

24th & 25th March 07

From Screendumps

This intrigued me when I saw it on NotCot.

Shutdown Day is on the 24th March and its aim is as follows...
It is obvious that people would find life extremely difficult without computers, maybe even impossible. If they disappeared for just one day, would we be able to cope?

Be a part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the internet. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!

Shutdown your computer on this day and find out! Can you survive for 24 hours without your computer?
I've signed up and hope to do it. Its a Saturday and they do tend to be more family focussed... I am a big fan of the concept of the Sabbath... taking a day's rest... but don't always follow through. Take today for example! It will be hard... most things of value tend to be. But this one will especially hard when we consider that...

From Banners & Stuff

Sunday, 25th March is Freedom Day and we need to raise awareness anyway we can to the evil that people trafficking is.

From Screendumps

I would love to get involved in a 24-7 prayer vigil on the Saturday evening... but not sure what's happening or if anyone would come if I organised one.

Anyone... check out the links and do what you can... both are valuable activities.

Howies :: Little Big Voice lectures

This looks interesting... Howies - the fab clothing label with a conscience (who are now funded by Timberland) - are doing a series of lectures from the 13th to the 16th April 07 down at Fforest Farm in Cilgerran, amongst the wilderness, between the spectacular Teifi Gorge and Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve.

Their intention is to equip people, like you and me, with the tools we need in order to bring media attention to the causes we believe in. And the more publicity we get for our cause, the more likely we are to bring about change.

Its all about change... As they say:
If we want to change things, we need to learn some new skills. We need to learn how to use the media to give the small guy a big voice.
Check it out... who knows, you may be one of the lucky 40 who get chosen to attend.
