Taking a break from Roots06 coverage to say I love Apple's ads... they have, in my opinion, surpassed themselves with the new Get a Mac campaign. Funny!
Roots06 :: Geraldine Latty & her band
One of the things Olly and I were up for was the worship... and we weren't disappointed.
Worship music is like house music for me... its contextual... it works when I am in the moment... I don't really listen to worship music or house music on the iPod :: there are some exceptions - Tim Hughes/ Hillsong & Delirious?/ Blue Six/ Masters at Work etc
Geraldine Latty was a tremendous leader who nearly burst with enthusiasm... she could take things from loud to quiet and back very easily... she led from the front with a smile that could melt chocolate! I may be off the mark here but she may be responsible for the disappearance of the polar icecaps!
The band were tight... almost like a Stax southern soul band... I was actually waiting for Jake & Elwood at one point. They had a percussionist/ trumpeter who was the life and soul of the band... really energetic and visual. The guitarist :: Calvin :: was extremely talented - he played this little light of mine in jazz, waltz, punk, reggae & rock styles... fab! They also had a clarinetist/ saxophonist who was first class and had real spirit and funk - she could give Maceo a run for his money!
We need more like this... Brass has its time and place, but this feels new and fresh and lively... Olly was inspiried and hopes to bring some of the songs back for BLOC.
What we need is a regular Roots night... where this is the norm rather than the exception.

Roots06 :: Art
One of the surprises in Roots06 for me was the prominent place artistic expression and interpretation had. This wasn't fringe but an integral part of worship in the Big Top.
I don't know the names of the chap and lassie who did the visuals but I thought they were fantastic! Interpreting the worship and talk in pictures so vividly.
Paula left a comment earlier about her struggle trying to incorporate art into worship and I don't have an answer... I do have an example :: a precedent :: to point to though...
We need art in church... we need to use the God-given creative talent as a way of expressing our love and our thankfulness.
What made this more meaningful was that the art was auctioned for this year's charity :: Watershed

On Sunday we went to NANDO'S for some peri-peri passion and while waiting to be seated I saw this chap's haircut :: Is this not the coolest haircut, possibly ever???

Roots06 :: We're back!!!
Hey... We're back from Southport and absolutely bursting with things to tell you... Will post more tomorrow... All pretty knackered and in bed.

1) Hearing Jeff Lucas talk about our faith in the most accessible way I have ever heard!
2) Discovering Brett Riches - amazing new talented singer/ songwriter.
3) Discovering Note for a Child - a joy to experience!
4) Worshipping with 3,000+ people - being led by Geraldine Latty
5) Getting my first alove hoodie.
It was an amazing time - loved being with Olly, the girls, and Janey & Roscoe. It was also great to see old friends like Karen & Gary... or meet up with our friends from Bellshill :: Kenny & Sarah, Alec & Andrea, Robert & Betty...
Really feel energised! Thanks to everyone who left a comment... My Technorati rating rose to just under 120k while I was away - maybe I should go away more often!?!
