The Duke (68/365)

I love Glasgow! I love working there... being part of the buzz... as I grab a coffee, eat some food or hang out.

It's an amazing city with a lot going for it... and a lot holding it back.

Thing is... it's my city. Not mine exclusively... I don't "own" Glasgow but I am proud to be a participant... a contributor to her diverse mix.

I want to see Glasgow flourish!

Custard (67/365)

Sometimes only custard will do. Hot. Cold. Doesn't matter.

That said... I love me some smothered French Fancies or rhubarb pie... in the mix.

Why is it we grow to love the things we hated as kids? I didn't hate custard but it wasn't "up there" with icecream.

Maybe... with some space to make our own choices... we come to realize what works... what is good for us.

Cult of Done Manifesto

Cult of Done Manifesto, originally uploaded by bre pettis.

Thanks to swissmiss and psfk for the heads-up on this. I found it very helpful at work and at home. Thoughts?

U*P*D*A*T*E

I was so inspired in fact... I put the manifesto in wordle.net. I've sized it for the iPhone... so download it... upload it to your iPhone and get done.

Being disconnected is something I'm not particularly good at...

"Lo-fi time, I call it. And it’s about blocking off time for sitting still and letting your mind wander. Or going for walks without necessarily trying to get anywhere. I very rarely take my Macbook to cafes anymore and sometimes I conveniently “forget” my phone at home. Even though most of my own work ends up living digitally, there are plenty of things to do that don’t require a computer."
Jack Cheng :: in praise of lo-fi

Another great and challenging post from Jack Cheng... his point being that we need to switch off so we can recharge & get the inspiration we need.

Being disconnected is something I'm not particularly good at... and this challenges me to see how I do what I do differently. I love my commute... and I love the time I spend alone in Starbucks (as well as the time I spend there with friends). Thing is... my iPhone and Twitter tend to be there alongside me... I struggle to disconnect almost as much as I struggle to be still.

The thing is... we need to be still... and we need to dream. Maybe we should leave our phones/iPods etc at home once in a while?

What do you think?

This is cool :: Moleskine Folio A3 & A4 notebooks

I'm a stationery geek and got all excited when I read this post from coolhunting.com introducing A3 & A4 Moleskines. Check out the range on Amazon and oooh & aaah with me (or point your finger and laugh at me Nelson-like for being such a geek).

Thing is... I love me some big paper. Currently at my work I use a blank landscape A4 sketch book... with 2 pages per day for my "to do" and all the notes that come from the issues / calls / emails etc. It acts as my "heads up display"... and beats hundreds of sticky notes.

We need to move away from A4 portrait lined notebooks... free ourselves from their shackles and embrace plain/squares and different shapes. It works for me... hence the reason I am all excited about an A3 Moleskine... albeit... I'd prefer it was landscape rather than portrait... but geeks can't be choosers :-)

U2 + Spotify (61/365)

I try not to believe the hype. I listen to what I want to listen to... I don't care if it's trendy & bleeding edge or just plain passé... If I like it, I like it.

I was reluctant to drop £10 on the new U2 CD... I am a big fan of their noughties stuff but was still hesitant. £10 can buy some good music & I wasn't prepared to take chance... all because I was caught up in a wave of excitement.

That's why SPOTIFY rocks. It allows me to stream pretty much what I want... including the new U2 album... to my MacBook. It let's me try before I buy... legally!

I like that. I also like the fact Spotify allows Last.FM scrobbling. I'm a geek in that regard.

I am going to buy NO LINE ON THE HORIZON. It sounds lovely - sonically rich, textured & warm. I think it's one for my whole family.

I hope the Record Industry is listening?Spotify & Last.FM are the future. Work with fans instead of suing them!
