street mining
Every so often I am blown away by the genius of people. Noah Brier is one of the brains behind likemind and is a big ideas person... especially relating to connecting and community.
The latest idea that he's been involved in is street mining
- the concept is pretty simple...
once a month a bunch of people get together and go walk the streets. each month is guided by a different person showing off their favorite gems. anyone's invited, so why not come exploring?http://streetmining.net/
Anyone up for trying this in Glasgow sometime? Maybe instead of a gathering... we could go for a walk. Find places and spaces that we may not know about.
Love it. Noah... another genius idea, bro!

Rob Bell :: Calling All Peacemakers tour
Olly and I are going to hear Rob Bell's Calling All Peacemakers talk in Glasgow on Saturday. I know a number of folk who are going too... Jon & Lorna (Jon got our tickets)... Paul & Jen... Gordon and Fiona... Laura-Lou... and possible Paul [DJ Haggis] Thomson and some of his posse from Auld Reekie.
I'd like to organise a gathering for afterwards... but I'm not sure what's near the Royal Concert Hall that would be suitable. Anybody got any ideas?

April's gathering
Not long back from April's gathering... and am buzzing from a couple of caffe nero strength lattes... some inspirational conversation... and the fact I have a loving wife and wonderful we'ans to come home to.
It was great to see Julie and catch up with what she is doing in her wee small corner... it was also great to welcome Laura, Laura and Paul to the gathering.
Laura, John & Alistair were just back from their essential interviews and were buzzing too. Paul... look tired... on the other hand.
A guitar came out at one point... which was cool. Good times! Thanks to everyone who came.

Why I do it!
I hope Laura doesn't mind me quoting her... but her quote really lifted me and I thank her for it. I don't quote this to make myself special or to say... look at me... but simply to show everyone why I do what I do. Why I sometimes spread myself too thin... Why I sometimes neglect people I love... This is why:
We headed down to Caffe Nero after that for ‘The Gathering’ which, due to our bizarre collection of toys, ended up being plain daft. We had the whole group tied together in a web of wool that, at one point, looped itself round the entire basement space ..and it was just silly and funny. It was so good though – just to be able to spend time in an atmosphere where I’m relaxed enough to have fun like that, in the company of a bunch of people who show a genuine interest in each other. I’ve really struggled to make friends since moving down here, so feeling a part of a group like that is a huge privilege to me. Lovely bunch of guys – Thomas deserves a lot of thanks for bringing them all together.Laura-Lou
Thank you! and to all who have gathered... my thanks!

gathering :: March
March's gathering has to be the silliest yet... with conversation touching on films... music... and things to do with some toys purchased by Laura and her gang in the Pound Shop.
For some reason a ball of wool was passed around... tie us all together in some weird, unintentional metaphor. Guess who's shoes?
Laura brought her pal Sam from up North... as well as bringing "Big" Chris and a chap called Jay that she knows from ICC. The wool was his idea... I think.
Jay (right) wasn't the only new face... Adam aka Lurch (left) came along. As did Martin B... who's laugh was infectious and was heard before we saw him.
Afterwards, the majority of folk went for noodles. At this point, I was happy to leave them to it... my job done, in a sense, by bringing them together... and because I wanted to see Olly and the we'ans.
Another good night. Here's to the next one!
Photos :: here - I think we may need to create a flickr group for all the photos taken.

February's Gathering
Laura & John
February's gathering was a great success! For more... go here
Thanks to everyone who came along and contributed!
February's Gathering
(L to R) Matthew, Kenny, John, Paul & Alistair
Another successful gathering took place last night... couldn't blog about it straight away - needed to catch up with Olly. What a great evening of conversation with 13 folk coming and going during the time allotted.
I was unfashionably late - preparing to fly out to Philly on Sunday and has busy. Got there at 1700hrs to a group of folk waiting... which was sweet.
(L to R) Laura, Jonathan, Matthew & "Big" Chris
Conversations varied from the "thing" Julie is doing tomorrow (ie tonight) with her breakfast group. They want to do something "spiritual" but not "religious" - they connect with Jesus but have disconnected from the Church - this is a fantastic opportunity that I will keep you posted with.
Laura & John
It was great to catch up with Laura Lou and connect her again with folk she knows from her home town... like John.
Julie & "Big" Chris
I was sweet just to witness folk talking... conversing... sharing... Made it all worthwhile.
The Ede's and Julie
There were a few new faces... including Paul's wife, Esther... and one embarrassed face - mine! I forgot Ester's LTJ Bukem CD.
Had a great chat with Paul around ((deep)) and some options we may have for an alternative venue. He is also well connected with promoters and the like... and he could connect me with some much needed new talent.
It was also fab to hear for the band Alistair and John have formed. Will be watching out for them.
Dan, John & Alistair
Afterwards... 5 of us headed over to Wagamama to carry on the conversation. The food was good, as always, and it was fab to just keep blethering about stuff
Me & Capt. Bennett
This was the first time I had actually met Matthew Bennett (one part of the Officer duo from Kirkwall) and it was great to catch up.
Good times... thanks to everyone who came and hung out and contributed. Here's to the next one in March.
