The Bible in Five Statements

My boy Jd Blundell has tagged me in a meme thing... which is to summarise the Bible in five statements. Here are the rules…
Summarize the Bible in five statements, the first one word long, the second two, the third three, the fourth four and the last five words long. Or possibly you could do this in descending order. Tag five people.
So here goes...
God
gives life
mankind turns away
Jesus brings love here
new life is now possible
Not as eloquent as JD or Stewart... but its the taking part that counts!

I'm all for keeping it simple... stripping away the verbosity and getting down to the nitty-gritty... and this exercise has really helped me to focus on what the Story is all about.

I believe the Bible is a living... breathing... story of which I am a part... and its important to remove all the guff that bogs it down... and get to the core of what it is all about.

I'm going to break with the meme... by asking anyone reading this to give it a go. Leave a comment and if you have a blog... post your five statements there too.

That's a brilliant effort, T. Spot on and more profound than many sermons I've heard!

Get it on to Cafepress!

I agree with J that it is brilliant. I would think that it is difficult to make as good an effort and my thoughts have been tweaking round this original and ending up expanding without improving.

It is a great sermon "skeleton" as well as a good way of remembering the essentials. If it is ok, I would like to keep and use it suitably attributed.

Thanks J and thanks Dad... I would, however, stress the importance in having a go yourself.

I would not consider myself gifted with words... certainly not the way JD & Stewart are... and I had a go.

So go on... give it a try. If you like what you have... post it on here.

The difficulty I have had is being as brief and simply eloquent yet thought-provoking. I keep adding explanatory words as in this example:

Eternal, holy, loving God.
Fills the void with perfect Creation.
First man and woman join Satan's rebellion against God.
Jesus becomes the Way to reconciliation with God.
God longs to be our Father and give us an eternal future.

Sounds more like one of the "sermons" J is trying to avoid! But I think it illustrates how good the original is.

Could become...

God
Fills void
Man rebels against
Jesus way to reconciliation
God longs to be ours

The exercise is in stripping away the very explanatory words you readily admit to adding.

Thanks for participating!
