Rob Bell :: Calling All Peacemakers tour

Olly and I are going to hear Rob Bell's Calling All Peacemakers talk in Glasgow on Saturday. I know a number of folk who are going too... Jon & Lorna (Jon got our tickets)... Paul & Jen... Gordon and Fiona... Laura-Lou... and possible Paul [DJ Haggis] Thomson and some of his posse from Auld Reekie.

I'd like to organise a gathering for afterwards... but I'm not sure what's near the Royal Concert Hall that would be suitable. Anybody got any ideas?

Go n use your newly found peace-making skills in Buchanan Street Bus Station ;)

..you think i'm kidding.

D'you not think it's kind of sad that the concert hall is going to be packed with Christians on Saturday, the majority of whom'll listen to Rob Bell feeling all inspired and excited for God... and will then walk out the door, down the mess that is Glasgow on a Saturday night doing nothing about it?

Sigh.

I didn't relise that there was so many going! I can't wait now. It's going to be a great night.

Could we not talk Starbucks into staying open for us! Afterall they do all nighters in New York!! :o)

really miffed cos was going to come through but logistics have run against us so we won't be coming. Would have been great to hear Rob Bell in the flesh and also to get together with fellow bloggers too. Will just have to settle with the Nooma DVDs. Have a blessed time.

COMMENT FOR LAURA-LOO-
YOU DON'T NEED TO SLAG GLASGOW. I DO NOT APPRECIATE THAT COMMENT THAT ITS A MESS. ANYWAY YOUR MISSION FIELD IS THOSE WHO YOU COME INTO CONTACT WITH IN YOUR DAILY WALK. WHAT MAKES YOU SO SELF RIGHTEOUS?

I know Laura LOU personally and I can confirm that she's the least self-righteous person you can meet.

I read her comment as an critique of the people attending the event and not of the people of Glasgow.

You could swap Glasgow with any town or city in the UK. Things get messy on a Saturday night... Walking up Queen Street on a Sunday morning is an exercise in avoiding puke. This is everywhere.

Question is... what are we doing about it? Not in a judgmental way... but in some way to help those who need our help if they want our help.

I appreciate your comment... but I'm sorry in that I disagree with you.

Mkay, i'm sorry to Anonymous and anyone else i might have offended with that comment, that wasn't my intention.

Nor was it my intention to "slag" Glasgow. i happen to like Glasgow. It's just that i also happen to like people, as a general rule, and know that a typical Saturday night in Glasgow sees people in a state that breaks my heart.

And Thomas is right.. replace Glasgow with any other town or city and it'd probably be the same.

We could take Rob Bell to Prestwick instead on Saturday. Now, i live in Prestwick. i LOVE Prestwick. But Prestwick still has it's masses stumbling out of pub doors on a Saturday night (and Friday too, apparently.. i can hear them from here). And the sad truth of the matter is, judging by your statement, these people are my mission field... yet if Rob Bell was here tomorrow, i'd still walk out the door having heard him speak and do nothing about it.

i'm as guilty as anyone. i know fine that in Glasgow tomorrow night i'm going to walk out that door, get back in the car and come straight home. And i can come up with a million & one excuses why - they're not my "responsibility", i don't have the gifts and skills to improve that situation, the thought of speaking to anyone fills me with fear - but really, how sad is it that i'm going to hear this amazing speech about the God i love ...and still not do anything to overcome any of that?

Just think about the impact we could have on our cities if every person who went to hear Rob Bell speak walked out the door and did something to change one life for the better.

That's all i was trying to say.

Man. It's late and i'm maybe not explaining myself very well, i'm sorry... i just need to clarify that i was really not trying to insult Glasgow and definitely didn't mean to offend anyone.

Anonymous, you have my apologies.
