Although the name reminds me of "Budgie" bikes that girls had when I was a we'an... The Birdy folding bike has really caught my attention. I am getting way too fat for my own good and need to exercise - problem is I don't have the time and live in a neighbourhood that the Psalmist only hinted at in Psalm 19 (The Valley of the shadow of death)... I figure cycling to/from work would be a cool way to shift the pounds (although there would be a train inbetween the to/from bit)
I really think a folding bike would be a grand idea. I really like Birdy's product range but they are a bit too pricey for me and a New York brand. I'll need to check out other local brands / suppliers.
Thanks to the Cool Hunter for the heads up on Birdy

Hi,
How's life with you? It's all going pretty good here. Looking forward to the weekend when I'll have to get up before 9am on Saturday to get to the post office for a parcel that they've got :-).
Anyway, you said on your blog that you're interested in bikes to get to work. I did the same thing last year and bought a folding bike. There are two main makes that you can get here. Dahon and Brompton.
I've got a Dahon Speed D7 which is very good. It has slightly bigger 20" wheels than some of the other folders (which have 16" wheels). Folds down in seconds and folds down quite nicely. It's great for me as I can keep it in the flat without it taking up any room and it has 7 gears which really helps with the hills in Edinburgh.
Check out Dahon
Bromptons are another make that I looked at. They have the smaller wheels but fold down really small and are light. But they are expensive.
I bought my dahon from biketrax who are currently doing the Speed D7 for £269. They are more expensive than normal bikes.
I've had mine for just over 6 months now and spent last year cycling to and from Waverly station. The bike has never given me a days trouble apart from a puncture which there is nothing you can do about. I had to replace the brakes but that's mainly cause I cycle down the mound in the morning and you know how steep that is :-)
I have got fitter cycling it, loosing a bit of weight and gaining some muscles. also I find that when I bring the bike all the way to work (taking it on the train) I arrive feeling much better than if I've got the bus. Some hard exercise in the morning wakes you up brilliantly.
Anyway, enough rambling. Give me a call if you want to talk more bikes and if you're in Edinburgh some time and want to see the bike in action let me know.
Roberto
