nothing really matters...

When I was very young
Nothing really mattered to me
But making myself happy
I was the only one

Now that I am grown
Everything's changed
I'll never be the same
Because of you

Nothing really matters
Love is all we need
Everything I give you
All comes back to me

Looking at my life
Its very clear to me
I lived so selfishly
I was the only one

I realize
That nobody wins
Something is ending
And something begins

Nothing really matters
Love is all we need
Everything I give you
All comes back to me

Nothing takes the past away
Like the future
Nothing makes the darkness go
Like the light

You're shelter from the storm
Give me comfort in your arms

Nothing really matters
Love is all we need
Everything I give you
All comes back to me
Nothing really matters by Madonna

I think Madonna's Ray of light album has deeply spiritual content... and I found the lyrics from nothing really matters inspiring this morning. It reminds me of the book of Ecclesiastes... the record of Solomon's journey of discovery.

Wisdom and folly... pleasure... wealth and material possessions... hardwork and effort... advancement... are all meaningless in and of themselves. As Madonna sings... "nothing really matters... love is all we need!"

At the end of Solomon's journey he concludes by saying that we should remember our Creator. Everything changes when we consider our Creator and our relationship to Him. He is the shelter from life's storm to so many people. I, for one, take great comfort from His arms.

Wisdom and folly... pleasure... etc... have meaning when they are contextualised... when they are seen in terms of the Creator... and His love for what He has created. They have meaning too when they are seen in terms of our love for our neighbour.

Love is all we need!
